Smile Education was commissioned to deliver Safer Recruitment training for staff across a Multi-Academy Trust, supporting leaders to strengthen safeguarding practice and ensure full alignment with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE).
The aim was to build confidence, consistency, and a shared culture of vigilance across recruitment and appointment processes.
Delivered as a full-day, face-to-face course by Safer Recruitment Consortium-accredited trainers, the session combined statutory guidance with practical, real-world application.
The training explored offender behaviour, safer recruitment responsibilities, robust pre-employment checks, and safeguarding-focused interviewing.
Group discussion, case studies, and reflective activities were used throughout to encourage shared learning and challenge existing practice constructively.
The training supported staff involved in recruitment, including school leaders, governors, DSLs and HR teams, to apply safer recruitment principles with greater confidence and clarity.
Participants left with a clearer understanding of their legal responsibilities, practical tools to strengthen recruitment decisions, and renewed confidence in creating a culture where safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
